Our House at Christmas | Christmas 2015

12/20/15

POSTED IN: Personal, The House

Decorating our first home at Christmastime has been such a sweet memory in the making! I have so enjoyed decking our halls, hanging tinsel (which the cats have destroyed here & there!) and decorating our first Christmas tree.  Getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year in the Hinson household has sure been pure joy and I honestly can say, I don’t want to have to take it all down after the New Year! Having the tree all lit up at night and being in the living room with only the tree glowing has been delightful and I could enjoy it all year long!

Our tree is decked out in green, teal, and gold.  I keep only the nicer, classic, and shiny ornaments on this tree that match the teal/gold/green theme.  (Notice our watercolor painting over our sofa?! We JUST got it framed a few weeks ago! It is a painting of our wedding venue-The Henry Hall Wilson House.  We had an artist/friend of ours do a live-painting of it during the wedding reception.)

ChristmasDecor_-1After getting our framed painting back from the frame shop, I knew I wanted to hang it directly over the sofa, SO I had to move the tobacco basket that I’ve had my hands on for years. (I sure do love that thing!) We hung the basket over the vintage desk (my great-great grandmothers!) and I started sticking Christmas cards in it! I don’t want to take it down now because I love it so!

I bought the “true love was born in a stable” wooden sign at Hobby Lobby for $7.99! The sleigh was given to me from my grandma, the scarf found at Goodwill, the vintage suitcases bought for $10 each at a garage sale, and the old post office scale was a gift from a friend of mine. Oh! And the cotton?! I picked it myself! 😉 ChristmasDecor_2Notice the sleepy kitty?ChristmasDecor_-3In our dining room I hung shiny gold ornaments from the chandelier with fishing wire.  I found gold/brass candlesticks at a Goodwill for $1 a piece and stuck gold candles in them for my centerpieces.  The smaller trees were hand-me-downs from my mother-in-law.  The gold polka-dotted burlap placemats are from Hobby Lobby & the gold chargers are from the Dollar Tree.  Those plates on the wall are all souvenir state plates that I’ve been collecting for about 5 years now.  I still have a whole other wall’s worth to hang.  I made a list last night, and I only need Washington State, and 3 New England states to complete my collection! …SO if you see one…let me know! 🙂  ChristmasDecor_-2 ChristmasDecor_-4Our foyer entry way is just darling! I stacked red and green books on top of each other to match the Christmas theme and then stuck a little sign on top.  The white parrot stays out all year long & I need to find him a little Santa hat to wear for next year! ChristmasDecor_1 ChristmasDecor_-8

We JUST added the mantle and I told Phillip that was what I wanted for Christmas so I could “hang the stockings by the chimney with care”! He made the mantle for us in no time and we had it up and decorated super fast! I am always SO proud of what all he can do! He thinks he’s not a “handyman”…but goodness, he can really do great work!
ChristmasDecor_-6 ChristmasDecor_-7In our den (where we are the most!) we have a smaller 4 foot fake tree that holds all of our cutesy ornaments complete with colored lights (Phillip’s favorite!) I also took down our chalkboard within our gallery wall and hung a real evergreen wreath on it with fishing line.  It smells SO amazing!ChristmasDecor_-5
