WELCOME!

Married Monday | Buying Our Dream Couch {FINALLY!!}

4/04/16

MM_COUCHI hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We sure did! We were BUSY though! Phillip has been busy pulling out bushes around our driveway and house and I have been shooting like a CRAZY woman! (2 weddings in one weekend…whoa!)  It’s all been great, but between our work schedules, I have to be honest here, I kinda miss my slow winter nights at home snuggled up with my man!

Last weekend we brought home a brand new white couch (that we got a heck of a deal on too!)  It’s funny because we weren’t planning on buying a brand new couch right away because we had decided to save our money for the couch (AND…we had just put a down payment on a BRAND NEW WEBSITE/LOGO design for Emma Loo…SO THAT was SO expensive!…but more on THAT later!) Anywhooo… we decided that with all of the recent spending we had done for ‘Emma Loo’ that we would hold off on buying a new couch.

I’ve had this vision for our couch and I wanted something very classic, traditional, comfortable looking, and slip-cover.  I ALSO wanted WHITE. (cue all the crazy looks!) To me, white sofas just SCREAM comfort…so that’s what I wanted.  Ever since my obsession with white sofas began, I’ve had my eye on this Ikea version, but honestly, after taking the Ikea’s version “out for a test drive”…I literally couldn’t make myself fall in love with it…even though it WAS WAY UNDER our price budget.  It wasn’t comfortable enough and I don’t think it would withstand the test of time.

So then, we moved onto bigger & better things… like Pottery Barn.  We had made a trip to our local PB store, sat on what we wanted, gasped a little bit when we read the price tag, but then knew that we must keep squirreling away our money in order to have what I loved. (View that one here!)  We decided that we were going to get the sectional from Pottery Barn but we had to wait to gather up our finances in the meantime, you know…because we have bills and such that trump the big sofa purchase.  (Check out how we save for things like our sofa and how we manage our budget here!)

Well, last Thursday night, my Craigslist searchin’ Mama sent me a screenshot of a brand new white sectional (the EXACT same one that we’ve been wanting!!)  There was NO WAY that sectional in pristine condition is STILL available.  We did some snooping and finally found out where it was located and I got on Facebook and asked the seller (@ Mama’s Sweet Pickin’s in Indian Trail) if it was available…and it was!!! (I just heard the angels belt out their highest “Hallelujahs” )

The next day I went to look at the sectional, took it for a “test drive” and quickly had all the heart eyes for this one living room masterpiece.  It was a non-brainer. We could buy THIS brand new sectional JUST like the ones at Pottery Barn for almost 3x less! (& Y’all…I’m not kidding! If you knew what we paid for it, you’d think we stole it!!) So we bought it and once it got in the door of our house…my dreams of a cozy, casual, and comfortable cottage looking living room finally came true! Couch-3 Couch-2 Couch-1

Only thing is though…it’s WHITE. And we have two cats. One brown/black calico and one orange/white tabby.  Two loving kitties, but two FIERCE SHEDDERS.  I tell ya…those felines shed like nobody’s business! So far, our way of keeping the cats off the white couch (and ONLY on the tan blankets we’ve laid on parts of the back of the couch) has worked pretty well.  And thankfully, Burt (our newest addition to the fam) hasn’t started clawing the sides of the couch (thank goodness!)  Lord only knows what’s going to happen when we finally get our puppy in August! I may just let my guard down and just let it all get crazy messy because the best thing about having slip covers is that we can take EVERYTHING off and WASH it ALL. (Praise Jesus!)Couch-5

In the same room as the new couch, we have our Easter decor (the little bit that we have!) I just love it! Even though it’s past Easter, I’m planning on keeping our Easter decor out for a little while longer. And plus, I really just like the sweet spring look of it all anyway! After the Easter stuff comes down I’ll plan on keeping the boxwood wreath from Target up over the mantle all year round.  LOVE IT!
