Married Monday | Plans to Paint Our Brick!

5/02/16

MM_PAINTINGBRICKThat’s right y’all! You’ve read it right! We’re painting our brick house! (Is the song “Brick House” playing in your head right about now?! It always starts up in my head when I mention those words!) Yes! We’re painting our brick! And No! We don’t need our heads checked for craziness! After living in our house for a little over a year, it’s time to make some necessary changes to the look of the house and give the house some major curb appeal.  Here’s a little look at what our house currently looks like. (Side note: for some reason I can’t find ANY of my images (other than cell phone images!) of JUST our house on closing day! This is it!)

Here’s a little iPhone shot of the house back when we first bought it! IMG_4464 We’ve already completely redone the inside of our house (I’ll be posting a full house renovation post very soon!) We’ve updated the inside and made it completely our own.  Seriously y’all… you can’t believe the time warp that was our house when you walked through the doors! It was like walking back to 1969!

When we bought the house when we were engaged back in November 2014, we decided to go through the entire house and fix it up before we even moved it! It took several months, gallons and gallons of fresh paint, a truckload of laminate wood floors (that we Phillip installed!!) and lots of patience and a little bit of our favorite sweet sounding word: “Sweat-Equity!”

But now it’s time to upgrade the outside of the house as well! So I’m starting with our brick! I’m planning to paint our brick a creamy shade of white (Dover White by Sherwin Williams to be exact!) Then we’ll leave the trim white since it’s already covered in a white vinyl (which is a HUGE plus for all you soon-to-be homeowners looking out there!) Speaking of which, when we bought the house, one major selling point for us WAS the fact that all of the windows had been replaced, a new GutterGuard system was added onto our house, AND a new roof had been put on the house within a couple of years! So although our house didn’t have all the major curb appeal that I was wanting from the start, I knew that down the line (aka…now!) we could update the curb appeal for a lots less than having to replace the roof or install new windows! (Our house was seriously a First Time Homebuyer’s DREAM house! No big expensive maintenance work required!)

So I mentioned the roof earlier! But did I mention that it’s a weird shade of reddish/brown?! Yeah…totally weird, right (When they re-roofed it a couple of years ago, why not just black singles? I will never understand) So to keep everything looking good and top notch on our painted brick ranch house, we’re going to paint the front door in Sky Blue (another fab paint from Sherwin Williams!) and we’ll be DIY-ing our new board and batten style shutters and painting them “grayiage” color called Attitude Gray.

Here’s a little sneaky peek at our color scheme just to give y’all an idea!
IMG_6198Here’s a little sneak at what we’re planning on doing to the rest of the house once the brick is painted! Think adding charming features like shutter dogs and cedar window boxes.  We’ll also be planting lots of flowering plants like hydrangeas and peonies along with updated boxwoods all around the house.  Here’s a little peek at some of my favorite things I’ve been pinning on my Pinterest board. Speaking of which, follow along with me on Pinterest and my board creatively labeled “Exterior House”!

PaintInspriationSimply can’t wait to keep y’all updated on our painting progress! Hopefully we’ll get a move on and pick a painter (we’ve gotten three quotes!) and get a move on! I am just so eager to see the finished product!! Our house will have some MAJOR curb appeal once it’s finished, and I’m pretty sure our house will be the CUTEST little house in the whole neighborhood! Happy Monday y’all! XO! -Emma Loo
