Ok…ok…ok! So I’m a little late getting this blog post out today! Mainly because of the fact that I just honestly wanted to sleep in and take today VERY SLOWLY…but then realizing ALL of the things that are on my to-do list…I probably shouldn’t “take the morning off”. Oh, how I envy some of you with your classic 9 to 5 jobs at an office! When you work from home…there are no sick days…although, the working in your jammies thing is a nice trade-off! 😉
SO! TODAY’S Wedding Wednesday post, I’m going to quickly share with y’all an option you could do on Wedding Day INSTEAD of a First Look! Now, while I do have my love affair with First Looks, I don’t always have Couples who want to participate in them! (Which is sad…but hey! I get it!) Also, First Looks aren’t a MUST by me. I don’t FORCE them on any Couple, I just simply suggest them, especially if the lighting is going to be better earlier! (If you want to read more about First Looks, click your little heart out HERE!)
But today is all about the First Touch! It’s a little bit different than a First Look because the Bride and Groom don’t actually SEE each other. Something is in-between the Bride and Groom which will hinder them from seeing each other and they can reach around and hold hands or simply touch one another BEFORE the ceremony. This is one of those moments that Brides tend to request before the ceremony if they’re on the fence about doing a First Look.
I really like doing these shots! I think they’re a challenge and SO much fun! If I know that my Couple would like to do a First Touch, I’m constantly searching for a cool spot where we could have it at! I look for cool doorways, old barn doors, a corner of a wall or even some shrubbery. I try to set up a First Touch just like I would with a First Look in the sense that I look for a semi-private location that is romantic for the Bride and Groom but also photographically interesting too! Not to leave out the light… the light MUST look good too! 🙂
Sometimes, if the Bride requests, SHE will be able to see her Groom, but he will be blindfolded so he can’t see her! If you’re interested in keeping your wedding a little more traditional and NOT do a First Look but you know you’ll be nervous and would like to at least hold hands or talk to your Groom BEFORE the wedding ceremony, a First Touch might be just the thing for you!
Here are some examples of a few images from a First Touch! Enjoy!
Jennifer and Eric’s First Touch was SO adorable! Jennifer wanted to see him but we had to make sure he was blindfolded! So I brought along a white satin ribbon as a blindfold and tied it to Eric beforehand! He also said he’d close his eyes since he didn’t want “to ruin the surprise!” SO SWEET! He had Jennifer roll up his sleeves because “she always did it better than he did”! Oh my word! SO cute!
Carlee+Andrew’s First Touch was unplanned and totally not thought through UNTIL a little less than 30 MINUTES BEFORE their ceremony! Carlee mentioned it to us and decided to do it (probably nerves kicking in!) I’m SO glad that we did! Their First Touch was AWESOME and it just goes to show you that there are AMAZING UNPLANNED moments to capture during any wedding day!! Even though it was stressful and our nerves were rackin’ trying to get ready for their HUGE ceremony…it was SO NICE to take a moment and enjoy why we’re all together…for these two lovebirds! I think their nerves went down just a bit and the two were able to have a nice moment talking, laughing, and even crying together! Plus, we got some great shots at the barn door!John surprised Michele by delivering her bouquet to her during their First Touch. He had put a small picture in memory of Michele’s Dad around the bouquet…it was SUCH a sweet moment! (& lots of tears were shed that’s for sure!!) Chelsea & Derek’s First Touch was simply beautiful! Love us a good barn door! 😉 Doing a First Touch also means carving out some time to open letters or gifts for one another! It’s a sweet and intimate moment shared between you two!
