Wedding Wednesday | The Veil

8/31/16

WW_VeilEver think about how much the bridal veil can change the entire LOOK of a Bride? Even though the dress does take center stage on wedding day, the veil is just as important, and can complete the overall Bridal look.

You can be sure that the tissues were out in full force when it was my turn as a Bride, and I put my veil along with my dress.  It was pure bridal bliss because the veil made my dress stand out and completed my look, plus it just so happened to be the same cathedral veil that my Mom and my Sister had worn in their wedding.  It was pure magic y’all.

So choosing the right veil for your wedding day is ultra important because it will complete your overall Bridal Look.  Here’s a couple of tips to keep in mind while choosing your veil.

There are tons of bridal veils out there to choose from, but for this post, I’m going to focus on the 5 most popular veil choices and give the pros and cons of each.

Birdcage Birdcage veils are understated and do not compete with your dress. These veils are very pretty and can easily come on or off for pictures or your reception. These tend to have a vintage vibe to them, so make sure that your dress and veil choices don’t clash too much! One problem I’ve seen with birdcage veils is that they can make it very hard to blink since they’re SO close to the face…especially if you’re wearing false eyelashes! 2016-08-0cotton-gin-barn-wedding-monroe-charlotte-wedding5_0014

Fingertip Veil These are the most popular of all veil choices because the veils are just SO PRETTY! The veil will beautifully flow while you’re walking down the aisle and also look gorgeous in pictures.  However, this veil tends to get in the way or tug on your hair while you’re hugging with friends and family.  Normally, these veils come off about halfway through the portrait time after the ceremony. 2016-06-27_00132016-05-18_0107

Elbow Length This veil is the universal veil because it can go with pretty much ALL wedding dresses.  Plus, it’s very versatile in the veil department because it can be worn by itself or along with a blusher.  This veil type looks great with hair worn up or down and make for some adorable wind blown veil shots! 2016-08-24_00342016-06-21_0095

Waltz Veil Waltz veils (also known as Ballet veils) have an elegance about them, which makes them semi-hard to find.  The Waltz veil adds a little bit of drama and its very unique.  This veil falls right below the knee and above the ankles, and makes it easy to keep on during your first dance (hence the name!) 2016-04-22_00462016-06-15_0040

Cathedral Veil These veils are absolutely breathtaking, especially while walking down the aisle! This was my veil of choice for my wedding day and I wouldn’t have had it any other way! It was so gorgeous! A longer length means that any wear after the ceremony or pictures is kind of out of the question (I had SO many people stepping on the veil during pictures!) But the pictures you can get from this veil are SO WORTH IT! Imagine your long veil just blowing in the wind, or the veil wrapped up around your groom…absolutely gorgeous! However, these veils CAN be expensive, so if your budget won’t allow for a cathedral veil, I’d definitely suggest an elbow length or a waltz veil! 2016-06-06_0073
