Downtown Raleigh Wedding | NC Wedding Photographer
After shooting weddings for the past 4 years, I have never feared the weather on wedding day more than I did for Katie and Evan’s wedding day. The weather forecast wasn’t looking promising and quite honestly, I didn’t know if it would be unprofessional to show up to a their wedding dressed in my knee-high black rain boots! (Don’t worry, I didn’t! But I’m sure Katie and Evan wouldn’t have mind!) 😉
That’s Katie and Evan for ya! They are one of the sweetest and most down-to-earth couples I’ve had the honor of working with, and I’m not joking y’all…it’s sweet couples like Katie and Evan who make my job as a wedding day photographer more like a passion and a blessing instead of a just a job!
Getting back to the weather though! It was storming like CRAZY the entire 2.5 hour car ride up to Raleigh! (We even stopped at Target just to buy a clear umbrella for some fun pics! Hehe! See below!) It seemed like every 5 minutes I would check The Weather Channel app on my phone and say to myself “Just don’t rain at 3:00…Just don’t rain at 3:00…”…3:00 marked the beginning of portrait time. However, with my luck there was a 85% chance of thunderstorms at 3:00pm and it didn’t look like it was letting up anytime soon! SO…the plan went to move EVERYTHING inside…The First Look, the portraits, Family Formals, Romantic portraits…everything. Was I heartbroken…you betcha. So I figured we’d just simply find a place in the beautiful hotel lobby where Katie and Evan were getting ready and that would be that! It would be PERFECT…rain and all!
However, when we got to the hotel, the hotel lobby and the blocks surrounding the hotel were SWARMING with an Anime/ComicCon attendees! People dressed in all sorts of get-ups…and those portraits taken in the beautiful lobby were no longer an option…unless we wanted Sailor Moon to be photobombing! Talk about devastation for this photographer! I was just praying that the suite looked good (which it did! Phew!)
Making light of the situation and knowing that I have to remain calm and flexible…because, after all…I AM a wedding photographer….when I got up into the suite where Katie was getting ready, I asked her to make “the call” about the portraits & the locations. With a small window of a “no rain chance” I wanted to see if she’d risk it to go outside for the First Look! Luckily, she wanted to and we took a chance, and it most definitely paid off! Although the wind was howling and a few drops were falling here and there, we got through the First Look and the Bridal Party Portraits without a hitch….AND we’re talking at 3:00pm PEOPLE!!!
It started DOWN POURING a couple minutes prior to the ceremony, which meant that their original outdoor ceremony had to move indoors! But it was STILL perfect no matter what! Katie and Evan’s shined even if it DID rain!
You see, we freak and stress out SO much about the weather beforehand…but I’ve learned after Katie and Evan’s rainy wedding day that it truly doesn’t matter! Rain or shine…you’re still going to get married to your soulmate and live happily ever after!
I SO enjoyed this day and I was honored to capture it for Katie and Evan! Being surrounded by so much love throughout their day still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Katie’s dad even came up to Phillip and I (…oh yeah, did I mention that Phillip second shot with me…He’s a natural folks!!) and told us that we really seem so passionate at what we did and I told him that we ARE!…and how could we NOT be?! Being able to capture Katie and Evan’s first day as husband and wife was just pure bliss and honestly, makes me fall in love with love and my own marriage all over again! It made it even more special that Phillip was by my side the entire day!
I hope you enjoy viewing some of my favorites from their special, special wedding day! XO!
