Wedding Wednesday | Sunset Portraits

7/13/16

WW_SunsetPortraitsToday’s going to be a short post because I’m actually heading out the door now to head to meet up with one of my girlfriends for brunch! Remember how I told y’all that I was taking this week “off” to sort of relax and get the house all cleaned up and organized….well….I lied…I lied terribly to y’all! I haven’t gotten ANYTHING done around the house. Drawers are still chaos.  Closets are left unorganized.  I’ve got NOTHING done around the house, but I’ve been totally a workaholic in the office…that’s for sure! It figures…now I feel like it’ll never get done.  That’s it! Tomorrow is nothing but cleaning!!! I would say today, but goodness…I’ve got brunch & shopping to enjoy! 😉

So for today’s Wedding Wednesday post, I’m going to share with y’all my new love for Sunset Portraits! These are something that I just really started doing at the past 4-5 weddings and I honestly don’t know why I didn’t start incorporating these special little moments into wedding day timelines EARLIER!?

For those of you who don’t know, sunset portraits are just that…it’s a time where I sneak the Bride and Groom out of their reception (during dinner…either right after they have eaten or right before…they decide!) to capture a few more “Romantic Portraits”…but this time…at SUNSET! The lighting is absolutely PERFECT during a sunset, with it’s warm, golden rays…so instead of letting that glorious sunshine go to waste, I ask the Bride and Groom if they can come out of their reception for some more portraits during this precious time!

In reality, most sunset portraits only take about 5 to 10 minutes MAXIMUM…unless my Bride and Groom don’t really mind and they are ok with going a little longer! I don’t want to take them away from their reception for too long, but it’s a beautiful part of the day that we should be taking advantage of! Plus, sunset portraits are a great way to spend LESS time on portraits between the ceremony and reception…because if we’ve planned on getting some portraits done during sunset…we may cut the Romantic Portrait time shorter in-between the ceremony and reception.  There again though, this is ALL COMPLETELY UP to the Bride and Groom! I let them “make the call”…but most of my couples trust me enough to trust my judgement when it comes to Romantic Portrait time.

Another thing that I’ve noticed about Sunset Portraits is that they turn out to be some the BEST and most FAVORED images from the ENTIRE WEDDING DAY! Yes! It’s TRUE! These Sunset Portraits not only LOOK GREAT because of the awesome lighting…but also because the Bride and Groom are more relaxed and having FUN! We’re not running around feeling stressed for time or pressured to get into the reception…it’s NOTHING like that…it’s RELAXED and it’s really a time where the Bride and Groom can soak in the ENTIRE day that is around them and enjoy the sun setting on their BEST DAY EVER!!

So…if the weather and SUNSHINE (& your timeline!) on your wedding day allow for it, choose to head outside last time for some Sunset Romantic Portraits.  Trust me, you won’t regret it! Here’s a few of my FAVORITE sunset portraits from some previous weddings! ENJOY! XO!

Jennifer was the one who ACTUALLY ASKED ME to sneak them out during the reception because she FELL IN LOVE with the sunset at Il Bella Gardens where these two were married! So we did, and these were some of my absolute FAVORITES from their day!

We decided to skip Sunset Portraits because I was worried about hair and makeup withstanding the heat! Karen and Jason were completely ok with my spilt-second decision and we decided to find a location where it would LOOK like sunset & shoot right into the sun (with some help from some shade, of course!) It helped that their wedding ceremony was later in the day because the sun was just starting to set as we took these images! LOVE!

Absolutely LOVE these shots from Chelsea+Derek’s Wedding Day at Johnson Carriage House and Meadows.  This shot will always be one of my favorites!! BP_ChelseaDerek_WD22

We snuck Kaitlin+Trey out of their reception and headed through the woods to a small field right near their reception site….it was a trek, but we couldn’t resist that light! It was SO PRETTY! (ANNNND….that field just so happened to be where mega-powerlines were built! HEHE!) KaitlinTrey_WeddingDay_018
